Gerry is a hugely experienced real estate professional with over 35 years’ experience across the UK, Ireland, Continental Europe and North America and holds an Honorary Professorship at Queen’s University Belfast. He is a former CEO of GVA and European chief of Avison Young and has been acting independently as a regeneration and development consultant through his own business over the last 12 months.
As a Non-Executive Director, Gerry will provide strategic advice and support the group’s growth in London and the South East, building upon its growing success across the North.
He commented: “I have watched the rapid progress made by David Smith-Milne and the team at Place Capital closely since set up, and have been impressed by both the passion of the business to directly address housing needs - especially for more and better social and affordable housing, but also the laser focus on working with and empowering local communities.
“I jumped at the chance to become involved because I believe in David and his mission, but also because there is both a need and an opportunity for the group’s unique approach in London and beyond.”
CEO David Smith-Milne said: “Gerry’s experience, knowledge and contacts over a long career in urban regeneration make him a hugely valuable addition to the Place Capital Group board. It is also a signal of our own growth strength and reputation that we have managed to appoint someone of such high calibre to such an important strategic role. The London estate regeneration space is open for disruption and with Gerry’s support we are actively planning to be part of that.”
